Indiana University Bloomington Chemistry

It’s fascinating to see the difference between my first (freshman) and last (senior) chemistry lab report throughout my undergraduate. These documents are 2 years and 10 months apart! The first document is a lab report on calorimetry, the process of measuring heat released during a chemical reaction; the second report discusses synthesis and characterization of six metal complexes. In honesty, the last document is the most time I’ve spent on any single assignment, so I’m pretty excited to share it even if it has some (probably many) flaws. I performed twelve hours of chemistry work in just six hours due to contracting COVID and an unfamiliar change of scheduling at the beginning of the semester (my fault). The data may have suffered due to this time constraint, so for those of you who know chemistry well — please only constructively roast me.

Usually I would cringe at posts like these, but I wanted to show how much IUB has grown me and how much it can grow any student who comes here! I’m so thankful for the rigorous chemistry program here at Indiana University, the professors, and the strong community of students you meet throughout the journey. Chemistry has a great way of bringing people together; Bloomington is a special place to send any young science student! It’s humbling to have a surface level understanding of one of God’s languages and art work. This week is bittersweet as I start and end my chemistry minor with inorganic, but mostly sweet. 🙂
